BEJING – U.S. men’s ice hockey team has defeated Canada 4-2 in Beijing Olympics, and it’s not small news considering this is the only first time after 2010 that Americans could win against a stronger Canadian side in Olympics.
It was in a tough contested game on Saturday at National Indoor Stadium, Beijing where the American side stunned the Canadians with a 4-2 final score.
In this game, 4 out of the top 5 players’ picks from the 2021 NHL draft played, out of which 3 played from the Canadian side. The USA had bulldozed the Chinese side by 8-0 on Thursday.
American captain Andy Miele who is 33 years old, scored two points out of which it was one goal and one assist
29 years old Kenny Agostino, the player who put the 4th goal for the United States was quoted saying ‘The kids can play, I think it’s safe to say. We’ve got a lot of speed and a lot of talent. But I think this was a man’s game tonight.’ Which clarified Kenny doesn’t consider himself a kid anymore going by the roster’s standards.
‘I think the future of the game is in safe hands. I think if anything, the last few years have shown that age in terms of youth is irrelevant at this point. If you can play you can play. You see it in the NHL. You see it in a tournament like this on the big stage.’
Canadian Mat Robinson’s shot the first goal but the USA team took just 70 seconds to make the scoreboard 1-1
The United States team looks all set to end at the top position in the group on Sunday as the USA will face Germany in their final group match, after which the single-elimination bracket will begin for the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics Gold. The USA team will end at the top with a win against Germany or even an overtime loss on Sunday. Though right now, the U.S. hockey win over Canada is being celebrated from New York to Michigan.
